Survival Kit (72 hours or 3 days)
You will need to prepare a Survival Kit (72 hours, 3 days) for each member of your family. Small back packs are the best container for your kit. The kits should contain the following:
- flashlight and batteries
- battery operated radio
- mini first aid kit
- change of clothes
- mylar blanket
- food and water to last 3 days
- hand operated can opener
- prescribed medicine
- eating utensils
- cash
Put food in your kit that doesn’t require cooking. You may put cereal, bottled water, granola bars or protein bars, canned foods, dried fruits and jerky or even nutritional drink mixes that require water to be added. It should also contain any special needs and medications for that person.
You should have personal earthquake kits for each family member and long term food storage. There is no better feeling than being prepared in the face of a disaster. The Survival Kit (72 hours, 3 days) for individual family members are critical in the event of evacuation or if family members become separated. You should also have a family first aid kit prepared. Each person needs to be able to carry their own kit and it should be customized to their special needs if necessary. Long term food storage for the whole family is also critical when a disaster makes normal means of obtaining food impossible.
